Scranton Photographer – A special project
December 6th

When I was a little boy I remember watching war movies on tv. Most of them were about WWII, and I was a huge fan of MASH. These things all coupled together ignited in me a life long love of history. From the Revolution to the Civil War period up through the modern age, the shapers of our country have always been a part of me. As a matter of fact, I still go to Gettysburg several times a year to breathe it all in.

I have a project in mind to bring my two favorite interests – history and photography together. And I need some help to get it done, mostly in finding my subjects. And I’m hoping you can help.

I call my project “Faces of Valor”, and the idea is simple: find some of the remaining local WWII veterans, along with those from Korea and Vietnam and take their portraits for posterity. Simple portraits, to capture their spirit. Their memories. To have a tangible remembrance of their sacrifices and the sacrifices of their comrades.

My goal is to shoot this project over the winter months and come Memorial Day 2013, to display these extraordinary portraits in an exhibit. It is my hope that someone in our community will step forward and host the exhibit, and to help publicize it. However, for the time being my thoughts and energy are on finding these men and making their portraits.

When all is said and done, it would be my hope that someone would put these portraits on a semi-permanent display, maybe the VA or a VFW. Maybe they can rotate around to tour the VFW’s, or maybe the Historical Society would like to take care of them. I don’t know. But I know I have to get this project done. The rest will come together.

Do you have any contacts in the veteran world? Some people have contacted me but nothing concrete has surfaced. Except for one woman who contacted me on Facebook to tell me about her grandfather who turns 90 on January 2nd , who served at Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, and Okinawa in the Pacific theater during WWII, and how important she felt it was for him to be involved.

I have just begun my search and any help my readers can give in locating veterans would be highly appreciated. I will also shoot veterans that are not of the WWII/Korea/Vietnam era. I am just focusing on them due to the fact that our WWII veterans most likely will be gone in ten years, and our Korean vets in 20.

Hello people. Isn’t this a handsome fellow up there ^? Just foolin’ around with a camera and my son the other day. And since a blog post is always better with a picture, I thought I’d put him up for you.

I thought I’d write a little bit about myself and my business today.

Steve Lewis Photography is the culmination of one man’s journey of self discovery. Do you remember what you wanted to be when you grew up? Me, I wanted to be a garbage-man, an archaeologist, (damn you Indiana Jones!) an actor, and a cowboy. But as I got older I realized smelly garbage makes me gag, boulders weren’t going to chase me out of Incan temples, I was a mediocre actor in a sea of good ones, and cowboys either get shot by bad guys or trampled by cattle. Since none of those things were going to work out for me, I decided one day not too long ago that photography seemed pretty cool. And then I studied. And I practiced. And practiced. And practiced. And practiced some more.

Then once I figured out what my destiny was, I decided to open for business in January of 2012. Today I specialize in fine art wedding and portrait photography. When I’m in wedding photography mode I’m telling love stories. From the first shot of the engagement session to the final shot at the reception I’m telling the story of YOUR love for each other.

When I’m in portrait photography mode, I’m attempting to capture a slice of your life in un-staged, natural settings as the events are occurring. Portrait photography should be about capturing the relationships and the personalities of my clients as I see it. As a photographer I am a casual observer of life, documenting little snippets of people’s lives. We need to have more than good lighting and smooth skin to make a good portrait. We need to capture YOU. Or your baby. Or your family. You get the idea.

When I’m not with my clients, you will find me running around after my three awesome children, keeping myself caffeinated, and generally loving life!

I like coffee, buttercream icing, sushi, and coffee.

I dislike smelly feet, math, scales, and Ewoks.

How Will You Remember? – Wilkes-Barre Children’s Photographer
June 22nd

How will you remember?

My mother lost all of our baby pictures in a flood, and never took us to have portraits done growing up, so there is a huge gap there for me. I have very few photographs of my youth to look back on today, which is why providing superior portraits to young families is so important to me, especially now that I have a growing family of my own, I understand the quality and care you expect.

For babies I offer two awesome programs to document their first year of life.

This program is for those babies who come in early enough to do a newborn session (within two weeks of birth).

You receive a Mommy & Me session in addition to the newborn shoot, and also a 3, 6, and 12 month session. This Program includes a 16×24 collage wall print of your favorite shot from each session!

This session is for those babies that come to me later than newborn. We do a session at 3, 6, and 12 months. This Program includes a 10×20 collage wall print of your 3 favorite images!

For kids older than 1 year, it’s anything goes! I love to photograph children being themselves, we let them run, play, jump, make faces, anything to capture their true selves.

All of my sessions a very comfortable and laid back, no rushing and plenty of time to capture the best images possible. We can have sessions at my place, your place, or any place with enough planning.

What’s next? Call me at 570.592.2938 and let’s talk about what you need. See ya soon!
